Nine Sockers Named to U.S. National Arena Soccer Team
International Cup play begins Friday in Anaheim

SAN DIEGO—U.S. National Arena Soccer Team head coach Phil Salvagio announced his 12-man roster for the upcoming Anaheim Bolts International Cup 2011, taking place at the Anaheim Convention Center from October 28th-30th. The USNAST will take on the newly formed Bolts, as well as the Mexican National Team, in a pair of exhibition matches prior to the start of the PASL indoor season.

“This should be an exciting competition,” said Salvagio, the 2010-2011 PASL Coach of the Year, “I’ve been looking forward to seeing the new Bolts for some time, and I’m sure Mexico will have a strong side which could contend for the Cup.”

Nine San Diego Sockers were selected from Salvagio’s home squad to represent the United States in competition. Leading the way: Sockers captain/forward Aaron Susi, PASL MVP Kraig Chiles (forward), and goalkeeper Riley Swift. Joining them from the Sockers will be midfielders Chiky Luna, Anthony Medina and Majell Aterado, and defenders Dan Antoniuk, Nate Hetherington and Diego Rovira.

“I like our US team,” said Salvagio, “I feel we are very strong, with great leadership and balance.”

Also selected for the U.S. National Indoor Team are defenders Antonio Sutton (formerly of the now-defunct California Cougars) and Sam Fiore (Cincinnati Kings), and midfielder Safet Kovacevic (Kings, formerly Louisville Lightning).

The U.S. National Indoor Team will play a pair of exhibition matches in Anaheim, taking on the host Bolts on October 28th before battling the Mexican National Team on the 29th. The Bolts will play Mexico on the 30th to wrap up the three-day round robin. Both matches are set for an 8pm kickoff at the Anaheim Convention Center.
