San Diego Sockers add Big Talent to Forward Line

The San Diego Sockers have officially signed, Andrew Lorei, the biggest talent from the 2017 MASL Player Combine to a 3 year contract. Lorei comes to the Sockers most recently from Ingress Tigers (Malaysia). Per league policy, terms of the contract are not disclosed.

Lorei has vast USL league experience, having played at the Rochester Rhinos, Real Maryland Monarchs, Minneapolis City SC and Tulsa Roughnecks. In addition, Lorei represented the Minnesota Stars - NASL (now Minnesota United – MLS) from 2011-2012, which secured him a spot with Swedish based Boden BK where he scored 21 goals in 41 games for the 2nd division side.

“I played with Eli (Galbraith-Knapp) and Ze Roberto previously and they both highly recommended San Diego, plus it was a chance to reconnect. I had heard lots of good things and wanted to give Indoor Soccer a shot. San Diego seemed like the right fit and I’m excited to score a bunch of goals, and maybe even learn to surf.” – F Andrew Lorei

At the combine, the 6’3” center forward impressed head coach Phil Salvagio and Director of Player personnel Chiky Luna with his size, skill and ability to score in tight spaces.

“At the St. Louis combine, Andy looked like the perfect complement to our current forwards Kraig and Erick. He is a big physical presence with a nose for goal. We can’t wait to get him in a Sockers uniform.” – Chiky Luna, Director of Player Personnel

Lorei echoed the Sockers’ coaches perceptions about his contributions to the Sockers:

“I think that I’m quite skillful, can pick out a pass and can bang in the goals. San Diego gives me the opportunity to win a championship and I’m happy to be given the opportunity by Coach Salvagio and Chiky.” – F Andrew Lorei

The San Diego Sockers are excited to have someone like Lorei join the squad for the upcoming season. He provides the size, strength, depth and creativity for the forward line that was at times missed last season. Although a relative newcomer to the professional indoor circuit, Lorei possesses all the tools needed to be an impactful player for the 2017-18 Major Arena Soccer League season.
