2015-2016 San Diego Sockers Player Bio: Ze Roberto


  • The Sockers’ captain has been the rock upon which San Diego’s defense has been built for the past six seasons. 
  • A starter and captain for all of his 93 appearancecs with the Sockers since 2009, Roberto was in the lineup for 17 games in 2014-2015. Flung his body in front of nine shots.  
  • Played for Brazil at the 2015 WMF World Cup. 
  • Played 15 games in 2013-14, notching a goal with five assists (six points). Roberto led all Sockers in blocked shots (19).
  • In his PASL career (76 games), Roberto had 21 goals and 33 assists (54 points). 
  • Notched a Sockers’ career-best five points against Arizona on February 10th, 2013, finishing with two goals and three assists.
  • Scored one of the biggest clutch goals of the Sockers’ season on February 1st, 2013, tallying the equalizer with 41 seconds remaining against Dallas...the Sockers would go on to a 5-4 win on Eddie Velez’s goal with one second left.
  • Continued his stellar two-way play in the 2013 Ron Newman Cup championships, scoring a goal in San Diego’s 7-6 overtime semi-final victory over Las Vegas, while adding an assist in the Sockers’ 8-6 win over Detroit in the championship final.
  • Named to the all-PASL Second Team in the 2011-2012 season, finishing with seven goals and four assists (11 points) in 16 games, finishing second on the team with 8 shot blocks and 15 fouls. 
  • First-team all-PASL in 2010-2011 when he scored three goals with nine assists (12 points) in 16 games. 
  • Had three assists in the Sockers’ 10-7 2011-2012 Ron Newman Cup championship win over Detroit, setting up goals by Anthony Medina (twice) and Kraig Chiles. 
  • Was honored as one of the Top 25 players in the past decade of the USL for his time with the Montreal Impact, Hershey Wildcats and Rochester Rhinos from 2000-2010. 
  • Indoors, Roberto starred in the MISL with the Philadelphia Kixx, Detroit Ignition and Harrisburg Heat prior to joining the Sockers. 
  • Ze, 37, and wife Heather have four children, Thais (10), Tiago (9), Tatiana (5) and Zico (3). Heather was profiled on the cable network TLC’s program “A Conception Story” while she was giving birth to Tatiana.
