MASL Suspends Three Sockers For Mesquite Incident
The MASL Discipline Review Committee and Office of the Commissioner has reviewed the post-game on field incident between players and staff of both the San Diego Sockers and home team Mesquite Outlaws that happened on Saturday, February 18, 2023. Multiple incidents involving players and staff from both teams have been thoroughly reviewed and discussed by the DRC and additional league officials.
The Office of the Commissioner has issued a $5,000 fine to both the Mesquite Outlaws and the San Diego Sockers teams for their role and decorum determined as conduct detrimental to the league during the post game incident.
As a result, the following disciplinary actions have been Issued:
San Diego Sockers:
1. Gerardo Jurado: Red Card issued post-game by the game official for violent conduct (contact above the shoulders). Jurado struck David Ortiz in the face during the post-game on-field altercation. This will result in an undisclosed fine, 2 penalty points, and a one (1) game suspension to be served immediately on 2/24.
2. Mitchell Cardenas: Red Card being issued for post-game violent conduct (kicking). Cardenas kicked a staff member of the Mesquite Outlaws while he was on the ground during this post-game altercation. This will result in an undisclosed fine, 2 penalty points, and a two (2) game suspension to be served immediately on 2/24 and 2/26.
3. Tavoy Morgan: Red Card being issued for post-game violent conduct (contact above the shoulders). Morgan struck a staff member of the Mesquite Outlaws in the face during this post-game altercation. This will result in an undisclosed fine, 2 penalty points, and a three (3) game suspension to be served immediately on 2/24, 2/26 and 3/4.
4. Phil Salvagio: Issued an undisclosed fine for conduct unbecoming of an MASL Head Coach and failure to control his players and staff during the post-game altercation.
Mesquite Outlaws:
1. David Ortiz: has been charged with Severe Unsportsmanlike Conduct (Yellow Card) for striking the arm of an opposing player (Jurado) during this post-game altercation. This will result in an undisclosed fine and one (1) penalty point being issued.
2. Pablo DaSilva: Issued an undisclosed fine for conduct unbecoming of an MASL Team Captain, and actions detrimental to the game.
3. Antonio ‘Tatu’ Pecorari: Issued an undisclosed fine for conduct unbecoming of an MASL Head Coach and failure to control his players and staff after the game, and a one (1) game suspension to be served immediately on February 28th.
A Mesquite Outlaws staff member will also serve a two (2) game suspension for his involvement in the altercation.
