SD Sockers Sign Two Local, Prodigal Standouts
Carlsbad, CA (September 2, 2016) – The San Diego Sockers have signed two local standouts in time for the 2016-17 MASL season. Eli Galbraith-Knapp and Juan “Johnny” Topete return to the Sockers after playing elsewhere for the last couple seasons.
Galbraith-Knapp spent last season split between eventual 2016 MASL Champion Baltimore Blast and Tijuana, Mexico based Athletico Baja. Topete returns to the Sockers after spending two productive seasons with Ontario Fury, scoring 24 goals in 23 games.
With the season scheduled to kick off on October 29th, Sockers moved fast to acquire local talents to bolster the squad. Galbraith-Knapp and Topete bring local pride, familiarity with the team and fresh energy to the squad. Spending some time away from the club gave them valuable playing experience and made them appreciate being part of the Sockers. Now they are ready to give their all for the club.
Galbraith-Knapp said, “I’ve been a lifelong Sockers fan and to sign for the team is a dream come true. I even had my 9th birthday party at a Sockers game!”
Topete was equally excited to tell his family that he would be returning to play for his hometown team, even making a public appearance in Sockers gear for a local charity event.
Look for the Sockers to return to their Championship winning ways with Galbraith-Knapp and Topete in the mix for 2016-2017.
