Toth, Oliveira Named to MASL Team of the Week

MASL TEAM OF THE WEEK – WEEK NINETEEN

 (Mar. 7, 2017) – The 2016-2017 Regular Season has come to an end, but not before one more exciting weekend of MASL action. These players rose above the rest to earn their way onto the Team of the Week

The MASL Team of the Week is selected using the Stars awarded at each game and by soliciting nominations from each team. Players nominated by teams were each awarded three points and stars were awarded 3 points (1st Star), 2 points (2nd star) and 1 Point (3rd star) respectively.

Goalkeeper:

Chris Toth (San Diego Sockers) – The San Diego Sockers had already clinched the regular season Pacific Division title, but that didn’t mean they were ready to relax. Chris Toth had an .800 save percentage on Saturday against the Tacoma Stars, only allowing three goals on the night.

Defenders:

Luis Ortega (Chicago Mustangs) – With pride on the line, the Chicago Mustangs were ready for the Milwaukee Wave. Luis Ortega led the Mustangs with three assists from his defensive position.

Damian Garcia (Soles de Sonora) – Damian Garcia may play defense, but he was very active offensively for Sonora on Saturday. Garcia had a goal and two assists in his team’s win over El Paso.

Midfielder:

Luan Oliveira (San Diego Sockers) –Luan Oliveira led the Sockers in their win against the Tacoma Stars. He had two goals on three shots in his team’s win.

Forwards:

Leonardo De Oliveira (Ontario Fury) – This is the second straight time that Leonardo De Oliveira has earned his way onto the Team of the Week. The Ontario Fury’s place in the postseason was sealed with the help of his three goals and four assists.

Taylor Bond (Chicago Mustangs) – Taylor Bond and the Chicago Mustangs ended their season on a positive note, getting a road win over their rival Milwaukee Wave on Saturday. Bond helped the cause with two goals, including the game winner with 14 seconds remaining in the game.
