Four Sockers On MASL TOTW Honorable Mention List

The Major Arena Soccer League announced today that the following players were named to the Team of the Week for Week 17.

The MASL Team of the Week is selected using the Stars awarded at each game and by soliciting nominations from each team. Players nominated by teams were each awarded three points and stars were awarded 3 points (1st Star), 2 points (2nd star) and 1 Point (3rd star) respectively.

GOALKEEPER:
Josh Lemos (Milwaukee Wave) – In round two of the three straight games against the Baltimore Blast, the Milwaukee Wave won a decisive victory. Lemos held the Blast scoreless until the final 2:29 of the game. He faced 15 shots on the day and turned away all but one.

DEFENSE: 
Miguel Vaca (Monterrey Flash) – Vaca had a seven-point week for the Flash. He scored a hat-trick against Soles de Sonora on Wednesday, then followed it up against Cedar Rapids with another hat trick and an assist.

MIDFIELD:
Gordy Gurson (Cedar Rapids Rampage) – Gurson propelled his team to victory in two of the team’s three games in Week 17. He scored a hat-trick against the Blast to help the Rampage clinch the franchise’s first-ever playoff berth, then scored five goals and five assists in a two-game road trip to Monterrey and Rio Grande Valley. Altogether, Gurson had eight goals and five assists (13 points) on the weekend.

Christian Segura (Soles de Sonora) -  Christian Segura scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for Sonora when they became the first team to defeat the Monterrey Flash this season. He then followed it up with four goals and an assist two nights later against the El Paso Coyotes

FORWARD: 
Franck Tayou (Soles de Sonora) – Tayou went into Week 17 only needing three goals to tie his MASL record for most goals in a season. After accomplishing that against Monterrey, he blew the record out of the water with seven goals against El Paso. He now sits at 64 goals on the season

Anibal Echeverria (Soles de Sonora) – Echeverria was also critical to Sonora’s two-win weekend. Against Monterrey, the forward scored two goals, including the equalizer within the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Against El Paso, Echeverria contributed five goals and three assists to cap his ten point weekend.
