Letter from GM Sean Bowers: Thank you San Diego

Dear Sockers Fans,

I want to begin by thanking all of you for your support of the San Diego Sockers during our "Questfor15" Major Arena Soccer League season. Although we fell just short of our goal of bringing a 15th Championship to San Diego, we have a renewed sense of purpose around the organization. We appreciate your constant and enthusiastic support of the team and of our efforts to achieve our goals this season.

We revamped our playing squad to be championship caliber, enhanced our profile in the community, reestablished relationships with media partners, and consistently aspired to make you part of the Sockers family. Game attendance was the highest average attendance since the heyday’s of the 1980’s. The lower bowl sold out on three occasions, which hadn’t happened since relocating the team to the Valley View Casino Center in 2013.

Highlights: Kraig Chiles breaks All Time Sockers Scoring Record previously held by Branko Segota (328 and counting); First Game with over 5000 fans (January 21 Alumni Game); First Game with over 6000 fans (March 12 Celebrity Game); Head Coach Phil Salvagio brought home the 2016-2017 MASL Pacific Division Championship; 100+ appearances and events during 2016-2017 season; and, featured on "Gillette World Sport - Guide to Arena Soccer," internationally on Beln Sports.

I am extremely proud of the extraordinary efforts of everyone involved including the commitment from the players, staff, front office, volunteers, supporters, and sponsors. We had a successful season both on and off the field. This season, we attempted to provide fans an entertaining, family environment with an opportunity to witness and experience professional soccer being played at the highest level.

While this incredible season may have come to an end, preparation for the next campaign is already underway. Our organization will continue our involvement in various community events and activities. Also, the Sockers plan to host soccer camps, a bi-annual FootGolf tournament, and an Annual Sockers sponsored Golf tournament. In addition, we will continue to fundraise for Sockers players Evan Mundine and Arman Nadjafi through offseason events and engagements.

Stay tuned. Stay Connected. The Sockers will be hunting for the 15th Championship with a renewed vigor in 2017-2018!
