MASL All-Stars Tab Slavisa Ubiparipovic for West
KANSAS CITY, MO--The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced on Friday, November 13 that San Diego Sockers attacking midfielder Slavisa Ubiparipovic has been "drafted" to play in the upcoming MASL All-Star Game, expected to be held December 5 at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, Missouri. Ubiparipovic joins Sockers captain Kraig Chiles on the West team, as the MASL looks to restart the excitement of indoor soccer for the fans who have been waiting since early March for a resumption of play.
"I can't wait to get back out on the field, it's been a long time," said Ubiparipovic of the honor, "It is an honor to be selected and I look forward to doing my best and hopefully contributing to a victory."
Ubiparipovic, 33, was the MISL Rookie of the Year in 2011-12 playing with the Syracuse Silver Knights, and has played ten professional seasons of indoor soccer with Syracuse, Utica and San Diego. In his first season with the Sockers during the 2019-20 campaign, "Slav" featured in 20 contests, scoring 14 goals with 10 assists (24 points) and ten blocked shots. For his professional indoor career, Ubiparipovic has netted 152 goals and 130 assists (282 points) in 178 career matches.
The MASL 2019-2020 season was ended in March due to the COVID pandemic. The league is hopeful of staging a season in 2020-21, with a tentative starting date announced for late December. The Sockers are continuing to monitor the situation as it stands with health and safety guidelines in the state of California and county of San Diego, and have not made any announcement yet as to their potential participation in such a season.
The MASL is expected to make further All-Star player announcements in the coming days and weeks leading up to December 5.
