MASL Announces First-Ever College Draft
The Major Arena Soccer League announced at the United Soccer Coaches Convention today the creation of the first-ever MASL College Draft. This will be the first indoor soccer college draft since the Major Indoor Soccer League hosted one in 2008.
The draft will be an annual event taking place at the conclusion of the outdoor college soccer season. College players from the NCAA, NAIA, Division 1, 2, or 3 will be eligible for the draft. Players do not need to register in advance to be included.
The draft will consist of five rounds, with the first two rounds being territorial.
“The addition of a college draft to our MASL calendar is a critically important step in the growth and evolution of our league,” said Keith Tozer, MASL Commissioner. “The greatest asset of any league is the talent of its players and this draft will give our teams the ability to recruit, retain and develop the top emerging young talent coming out of colleges and universities.”
“As the league continues to grow, we need to increase the talent pool for our coaches,” said Brian Budzinski, Kansas City Comets managing partner and College Draft Steering Committee member. “The addition of the college draft will provide a direct path for young players to join our MASL member clubs.”
Further details will be released at the conclusion of the 2021-22 MASL season.
