MASL Expanding To Guadalajara For Next Season

The Major Arena Soccer League announced today that an expansion Guadalajara team will be joining the current 14 team league this coming Fall, pending a vote of league owners.

Commissioner Keith Tozer has spent the last two days in Guadalajara, Mex. talking to community leaders and touring the proposed stadium, Domo Code Jalisco.

“Guadalajara is a wonderful city with a storied history and a deep love for the game of soccer,” said Tozer. “We look forward to continuing to work with team management and city leaders to bring the MASL to a brand-new market.”

The expansion club will be owned by a group of prominent business affiliates of the MASL represented by San Diego Sockers Phil Salvagio. It will be co-managed by a local group from Guadalajara, led by Christian Armando Guzmán Contreras.

The name of the team will be Guadalajara Tequileros FC. The addition of Tequileros FC will bring the number of Mexican clubs in MASL to three, as they join current league members Monterrey Flash and Chihuahua Savage. The proposed addition of Guadalajara is further proof of the MASL's commitment to expanding the Hispanic market. Further expansion in Mexico is expected in the very near future.

The Major Arena Soccer League represents some of the best professional indoor soccer in the world. The MASL features teams across North America, with teams playing coast-to-coast in the United States and Mexico, and players from over 30 countries.
