MASL Shines At United Soccer Coaches Convention
The MASL concluded an outstanding week at the United Soccer Coaches Convention with the return of indoor soccer to downtown Kansas City.
In a game for the history books Leo Gibson led his squad to a 9-2 victory over the Tacoma Stars. Leo scored his 200th MASL goal and with a five-point night and now leads the league in overall points at 401.
In speaking of the momentous night Leo Gibson said, “It’s an honor, I feel blessed. Doing it on this stage with this group of guys and the position I’m in, it’s all a blessing and I really cherish it.”
Six thousand and eleven fans were on hand at the T-Mobile Center Saturday night to watch the show. In a post-game press conference MASL Commissioner Keith Tozer said, “It was not only a great win for the Kansas City Comets but a great win for indoor soccer and the Major Arena Soccer League.”
This was the first time that the Major Arena Soccer League attended the United Soccer Coaches Convention. The five-day convention is the largest gathering of soccer coaches in North America featuring talks, demonstrations, new products and training sessions.
“Our responsibility is to grow the sport and we felt coming here to the United Soccer Coaches Convention where everyone is here, even in these difficult times, is we got back in the conversation, and we got back in the pool,” said Tozer. “This was great for the Major Arena Soccer League.”
On Thursday afternoon JP Dellacamera, president of media/communications and Tozer participated in the Back to the Future symposium moderated by Nick Vasos, Kansas City Comets play by play announcer. The full recording of the event can be viewed here and on MASL Facebook.
Together they spoke of the rich history of the sport as well as their future plans to grow the sport. A major announcement to come out of the symposium is the addition of a college draft to next year’s schedule. Read more about the draft here. They also announced the naming of an award in honor of beloved referee Gino D’Ippolito.
Throughout the conference players, coaches and MASL executives appeared on podcasts and took part in interviews Sirius XM shows including United States of Soccer and the Coaching Academy.
The MASL looks forward to participating next year’s event in Philadelphia and continuing to integrate into the soccer landscape of North America as the indoor soccer brand grows.
