Christian Segura Signing Adds More Firepower
The 14-time champion San Diego Sockers announced the signing of forward Christian Segura for the 2018-19 Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) season. The transaction was made on the final day of the MASL’s Free Agency signing period. Per league and team policies, details of the agreement were not released.
Segura, who is the Sockers fourth free agent signing this month, has a strong presence in the offensive zone. The MASL veteran has tallied 67 goals, 25 assists for 92 points in 67 career games. He is coming off his best season in the league when he compiled 22 goals and nine assists with Sonora. The Hermosillo, Mexico native played for one season for the Las Vegas Legends to begin his career before moving to the Soles de Sonora for the 2015-16 season.
“We have been very active and purposeful during free agency, and the signing of Christian Segura completes this phase of the offseason. We are excited that we can add his firepower to our lineup. Training Camp will be very competitive with all of the tremendous talent we have and that is a good thing when challenging for a championship,” said Sockers General Manager Sean Bowers.
In addition to Segura, the Sockers signed forward Taylor Bond, midfielder Christian Gutierrez, and defender Manual Rojo during the two-week free agency period. San Diego also extended the contract of Luis “Pee Wee” Ortega for three years.
