S4EA Honors Ron Newman

The local non-profit Sports for Exceptional Athletes honored legendary Sockers head coach Ron Newman at its 18th annual Taste 4 Sports Dinner on May 29 at the Balboa Park Club. Guy Newman, Ron's son, and his family were in attendance to accept the honor. S4EA Executive Director Walter Jackson, a longtime Sockers fan, presented Guy with a handmade ceramic plaque to conclude the ceremony.

Current Sockers goalkeeper Xavier Snaer-Williams and former Sockers reserve goalkeeper Jonathan Greene, who played under both Newmans in the 80s, were present at the event. 

The evening raised over $60,000 for the organization, which is a San Diego-based sports program serving 1,400 athletes with developmental disabilities, ages 5 through adult.
