June 23, 2017

The San Diego Sockers have added championship caliber talent to the defensive ranks. Sockers have signed former Chicago Mustangs Defender Luis "Pee Wee" Ortega to a 1-year deal. The signing is the fourth of the Sockers offseason, having re-signed Matt Clare last week to a five year deal and adding former Soles de Sonora players Hiram "Pollo" Ruiz and Raymundo Contreras. .

Luis "Pee Wee" Ortega is highly rated by many within the league and is a welcome addition to the team.

"I've always heard that the Sockers are a strong organization and have obviously won a lot of championships. I am coming here to play for a championship team with a strong tradition."

Director of Player Personnel, Chiky Luna, has been tasked with identifying players that could help bring San Diego its 15th championship, but also fit the championship culture.

"We're building a championship roster and want players that can contribute in key positions. It's not easy to win a championship so we need players like 'Pee Wee' to come in and make an impact."

When asked about his personal goals for his time in San Diego, Ortega was straight to the point.

"I don't really care about my stats. I just want to win a championship."

With prized players like Ortega joining the Sockers for the 2017-18 Major Arena Soccer League season, look for the team to improve upon their 2016-17 Western Conference Finals appearance.
