Sockers 2 Opens Season With 12-1 Victory
The San Diego Sockers 2 began defense of their Major Arena Soccer League 2 Western Conference Championship with a 12-1 win over the visiting Arizona Lightning at Ron Newman Field at Pechanga Arena San Diego on Saturday afternoon. Sean Callahan (3-0=3) and Eli Galbraith-Knapp (3-0=3) both notched hat-tricks, while Lorenzo Ramirez (2-1=3) supplied two goals to lead San Diego.
After trading goals late in the first period, San Diego scored 11 consecutive goals. Rene Flores, Evan Myers, Alexis Velela, and Uziel Gonzalez added single tallies to the performances of Callahan, Galbraith-Knapp and Ramirez.
Arizona never mounted a serious offensive attack only managing six shots on goal for the entire game. Sockers goalkeeper Yair Aguilar (1-0) allowed only one goal and made four saves to earn the victory.
It will be important for San Diego to get off to a good start with its next three games at home, before hitting the road for six contests.
The Sockers 2 will host Ontario Fury 2 on Friday, January 11, 3:05 p.m. at Ron Newman Field at Pechanga Arena San Diego. Admission is free, however, supporters need to arrive 20 minutes prior at the North Entrance to be escorted inside the arena.
