Broadcast Team & Spanish Initiatives Announced

The San Diego Sockers today announced their broadcast and social media teams for the 2019-20 season, the reprise of their rebroadcast agreement with Sintesis TV in Tijuana, as well as new Spanish language social media accounts on Twitter and Instagram.

All San Diego Sockers home matches will once again be streamed for free on MASL.TV via YouTube, live and in high definition. Craig Elsten and Nate Abaurrea return as the broadcast commentary team, with Melissa Mae reprising her role as sideline reporter and in-arena host. Elsten begins his ninth season of play-by-play for the Sockers, adding the roles of Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Communications. Abaurrea begins his fourth season with the club, handling both analyst and play-by-play duties on-air in addition to social media and podcast roles. Mae returns for a second season as on-field interviewer and reporter, as well as in-arena host.

In addition, the Sockers are proud to pair with Sintesis TV in Tijuana for rebroadcasts of every San Diego Sockers home match through the 2019-20 season. For the second straight season, home matches will be replayed on a next-day basis on Sintesis in Tijuana, with Osvaldo Samaniego and Giovanni Guerrero providing Spanish language commentary on the air.

To further bolster the Sockers’ connection to San Diego and Tijuana’s Latino community, the club today launched @SomosSockers, Spanish language social media accounts on Twitter and Instagram. In addition to translated tweets from the Sockers’ main feed, @SomosSockers will offer exclusive pictures and commentary from the club’s sixteen Spanish speaking players.

The Sockers also announce the hiring of Jerry Jimenez as the club’s Gameday Social Media Coordinator. Jerry will guide the Sockers’ social media team feeds on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook over the course of San Diego Sockers home match days, bringing all the color and excitement of the club from behind the scenes to out in the parking lot, and everywhere in between.

For the second consecutive season, the San Diego Sockers offer a weekly free podcast. Sockers Overtime is hosted by Craig Elsten and Nate Abaurrea, and is available every week during the Sockers season, featuring recaps, interviews, and previews of upcoming matches. Sockers Overtime is presented for the 2019-20 season by Three Punk Ales Brewing in Chula Vista, and is available for subscription and download on all major platforms.

The Sockers open their MASL regular season with a Sunday, November 24 home contest at 5:05 p.m. against the California Express. Season and single-game tickets are available without fees by calling (866) 799-GOAL, or online at Sockers.com.
