Sockers Extend Contracts Of Four Players
The San Diego Sockers - presented by Kaiser Permanente - today announced contract extensions for the following players:
Midfielder Brandon Escoto has agreed to a new five-year contract extension through the 2027-28 MASL season. Forward Kraig Chiles has agreed to a new three-year contract extension through the 2025-26 MASL season. Goalkeeper Xavier Snaer-Williams has agreed to a new two-year contract extension through the 2024-25 MASL season. Midfielder Sean Callahan has agreed to a new one-year contract for the 2023-24 MASL season. As per club and league policy, terms of the contracts will not be announced.
Escoto, 29, featured in 19 matches during the 2022-23 campaign, registering (11-15=26) points. The previous season, Escoto finished in the MASL’s top-10 in both goals and assists, finishing with (21-23=44) points, good for T-7th in the league. In 150 career MASL games with the Sockers and Atletico Baja, “Churras” has collected 138-105=243 points, averaging just under a goal per game.
Chiles, 39, is the Sockers’ all-time leader in goals and points, a six-time champion and three-time league MVP. Aging like a fine wine, Chiles again led San Diego in scoring during the 2022-23 season, netting (21-20=41) points. The captain of the club since 2015, Chiles has 457 goals and 671 points between the PASL and MASL, the highest totals for any active player. His MASL totals in 157 matches are 254 goals, 138 assists and 392 points. Chiles ranks third all-time in MASL goals and fifth in points, and begins the season eight points away from becoming the fifth MASL player to reach 400 career points.
Snaer-Williams, 24, enters his third season with the Sockers as the entrenched backup goalkeeper to Boris Pardo. In 2022-23, Snaer-Williams made a career-high eight appearances in the regular season, often finishing out blowout matches in the fourth quarter or second half. Xavier went 1-0 in his lone start of the season, a home victory over Milwaukee, stopping 13-of-18 shots. Overall for the season, Snaer-Williams posted a 5.66 GAA (goals-against average) and .619 SV% (save percentage) in 169 minutes of game action.
Callahan, 30, made a career-high fifteen appearances in 2021-22, but was held back early in the 2022-23 season due to injury, and then saw his spot in the lineup taken, making just one appearance for the top team. Sean has been a starter for the (now-defunct) SDSockers2 program in MASL2.
The Sockers begin the 2023-24 MASL campaign on Sunday when they host Tacoma Stars for a 5:05pm kickoff at Pechanga Arena. Tickets are available by calling (866) 799-GOAL, visiting sdsockers.com, or going to the Pechanga Arena box office on match day.
