Sockers Fall 6-5 to Expansion Team Florida Tropics SC

(November 11, 2016) San Diego Sockers (2-1) travelled to face expansion team Florida Tropics SC (1-0). In the first ever meeting between the two teams, Florida Tropics SC prevailed 6-5 in a thrilling 4th quarter comeback victory.

Captain Kraig Chiles and Matt Clare led the attack for the Sockers on the night. Chiles added two more goals to his career goal tally and an also provided an assist for Luan Oliveira’s goal. Meanwhile, Clare continued to show his attacking prowess with a goal and assist on the night. However, it wasn’t enough to pull away from the inspired Florida Tropics team.

The Sockers #QuestFor15 took a slight detour with the surprising loss. In cruise control, San Diego Sockers were leading 4-1 at the end of the Third Quarter. Then it all changed in the 4th quarter. Florida Tropics found some extra fuel in the tank and switched into high gear, scoring 5 goals.

First half goal scorer, Victor Rojas added his second in the 4th quarter to inspire the Tropics. However, it was Ricardo De Queiroz Diegues who provided the most thrilling moment of the game. With 32 seconds left on the clock, Ricardo DQ Diegues scored an absolute stunner of a bicycle kick to put the Tropics up 6-5.

The 2000+ fans in attendance roared in jubilation as the hometown team prevailed against the storied Sockers team. It’s a game they won’t forget any time soon!

The Sockers were left shocked and will need to regroup quickly.

On Saturday, the Sockers travel to rematch against the Dallas Sidekicks after last week’s 8-4 Sockers win.
