Sockers Hold Successful Tryout Sessions

The 14-time indoor champion San Diego Sockers began their “Quest for 15” with two sessions of open tryouts at the Sockers Indoor Center at Valley View Casino Center in September. Over 70 hopefuls attended the two two-day tryouts in hopes of making the team. However, most will land a roster spot on the newly revamped Sockers Reserve team.

Sockers Head Coach Phil Salvagio and General Manager Sean Bowers oversaw the tryouts. “Interest in the team continues to grow, as we had three times the number of tryout participants this year,” said Bowers. “We were excited by the level of skill showcased at the tryouts. Since our core roster is set with top players, we expect to add these players to the Sockers Reserves. Having a deep roster will be beneficial for us as we move forward in a league that is getting more competitive each year.”

Twenty-eight players were selected to compete at the final tryout game on September 28, 7pm, at the Sockers Indoor Center. Those chosen will be invited to the team’s training camp, which opens on October 20.

The Sockers will open the home portion of their fourth Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) season on Sunday, November 5, 5:05pm, at the Valley View Casino Center. Season tickets are on sale now and individual seats will go on sale on October 1.
