Sockers look forward to first Road Trip of Season

(November 10, 2016) This weekend, San Diego Sockers go on their first road trip after going 2-0 at home. On Friday, Sockers will travel to face expansion team Florida Tropics in the first ever game for the Tropics. Then, on Saturday, the Sockers will travel to face a stern test against the Dallas Sidekicks. The Sockers will look to continue their strong early season form with two more victories on the #QuestFor15!

San Diego Sockers are looking forward to facing the Florida Tropics in their first ever match. The match has a slight feeling of “Veteran vs Rookies.” The Florida Tropics have been preparing for months to face the historical juggernaut and Friday will mark their first foray into the sport of professional indoor soccer. We will see on Friday, 4:35pm (PST) what kind of team the Florida Tropics have assembled.

Saturday marks the first rematch between the Sockers and traditional rival, Dallas Sidekicks. On November 5th, the Sockers prevailed by an 8-4 score line in San Diego. The Sidekicks will be looking for revenge at home against a high-scoring Sockers team.

The Sockers will be as a formidable test as any team in the MASL this weekend. The Sockers are averaging 10 goals per game, compared to only 2.5 goals against. Sockers also have the best goal differential in the league at +15. Captain Kraig Chiles continues to score freely, scoring 5 in his first two games. Goalkeeper Chris Toth leads the league in Wins (2), Goals Against Average (2.5) and Save Percentage (.891%).

The Sockers team is starting to gel with a good mix of veteran leadership and youthful enterprise. Sockers veterans like Captain Ze Roberto, Victor Quiroz and Scott Martin have anchored a strong back line. Meanwhile Chiles and Sockers Ironman, Anthony Medina, have provided consistent goal threats. Newcomers Max Touloute and Brandon Escoto have excited the crowds with their dribbling and speed. Also, last year’s Sockers’ signings Matt Clare, Luan Oliveira and Erick Tovar have added dynamism to the attack.

This weekend’s travel schedule will provide the first true test for the Sockers that have started the season 2-0. The Sockers’ #QuestFor15 will be in good shape if they can come back to California with two more W’s in the Win column.
