Sockers Look to Get Back on Winning Track vs El Paso
(November 23, 2016) San Diego Sockers (3-2) continue their road schedule this Saturday 6:30pm PST against a struggling El Paso Coyotes (0-3) team. After starting 2-0 at home, the Sockers have gone 1-2 on the road, but are looking to get back on track before a two game home stand. El Paso Coyotes will be looking for their first win of the season against one of the historically best teams in the league.
Last weekend, Sockers fell for the first time ever to Turlock Express by a score line of 6-4. Captain Kraig Chiles added two more goals to his career tally and chase to become the Sockers All Time Leading Scoring. Meanwhile, El Paso scored half of their season’s goals in their 18-10 thriller loss vs Soles de Sonora. Leobardo Siqueiros led the El Paso attack with two goals and an assist, with six other goal Coyotes players getting on the scoresheet.
Saturday’s matchup should prove difficult for the Coyotes to score. Veteran defenders Victor Quiroz and Captain Ze Roberto anchor one of the league’s best defenses. The Sockers have the league’s best Goal Differential (+12) and are allowing only 4.2 goals per game. Goalkeeper Boris Pardo is predicted to start against the Coyotes. Last season, Pardo finished as Runner Up for "MASL Goalkeeper of the Year" and first in the league Wins.
On the offensive side of the ball, Sockers Kraig Chiles shoulders the load as he continues to routinely find the back of the net and now has an incredible career tally of 290 goals. Chiles now trails Sockers legend and record holder Branko Segota by only 8 career goals. He will be looking to add a few more to his career tally against a team that has allowed 42 goals in three games.
Sockers boast other attacking threats that have astonished fans throughout the league. Forwards Anthony Medina and Erick Tovar have contributed goals at vital moments. Midfielder Matt Clare is amongst the league leaders in assists. Finally, Max Touloute, Brandon Escoto and Luan Oliveira pull the strings in the midfield, create scoring opportunities and dazzle the crowds with their impressive footwork.
