Sockers Place Two On MASL Team Of The Week

The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) Week Six Team of the Week was announced today and the Sockers have two players named to the squad. Boris Pardo and Brandon Escoto were honored for their performances in two games over the weekend. Taylor Bond was placed on the Honorable Mention list. Players named to the Team of the Week will be eligible for the Week Six Player of the Week award. The Player of the Week is voted on by a combination of fans and the member teams of the MASL.

GOALKEEPER:

Boris Pardo (San Diego Sockers) – In his first season as the exclusive first choice goalkeeper for the San Diego Sockers, Boris Pardo is doing his part to keep his team among the league’s elite. In two games this weekend, Pardo earned two wins while only allowing 3 goals and stopping 19 of the 22 shots he faced (.864%).

MIDFIELD:

Brandon Escoto (San Diego Sockers) – Escoto and the Sockers won both of their games on their two-game weekend against division foes, the Turlock Express, and Ontario Fury. After giving up an early goal to the Express on Friday, Escoto scored the first goal for the Sockers and the last goals for the Sockers with an assist in-between. Then at home the next night, Escoto scored the equalizer against the Ontario Fury in the final five minutes of regulation before adding in the Game Winning Goal less than two minutes into the overtime period.

FORWARD: 

Zach Reget (St Louis Ambush) – Rookie Zach Reget is tearing it up for the Ambush. Going into Saturday’s game against the Tropics, he already led all rookies in scoring, then added two more goals (including the game-winner) to help St Louis already surpass their win total from last season.

VcMor Eligwe (Dallas Sidekicks) – Eligwe has enjoyed the Sidekicks return to MASL action. He leads his team in scoring with 13 goals after five weeks of play. Saturday he scored three goals, including the game-winner in overtime and added another goal on Sunday against the Coyotes.

DEFENSE: 

Diego Salas (El Paso Coyotes) – Salas helped to lead the Coyotes to their upset win against the Tacoma Stars on Friday with two goals and three assists, then provided an assist the next night as El Paso took the Sidekicks to overtime on the road.

Hector Vallejo (Monterrey Flash) – The Monterrey Flash kicked off their New Year with a win against their Southwest Division rival Dallas Sidekicks on Sunday evening. Vallejo scored the first two goals of the game, then played tough defense to make sure his team never fell behind the rest of the match.
