Sockers Place Two On MASL Team Of The Week

The San Diego Sockers, presented by Kaiser Permanente, placed two players on the MASL's Week 8 Team of the Week. Goalkeeper Boris Pardo and defender Mitchell Cardenas both earned their first TOTW honors of the season,  joining Cesar Cerda and Brandon Escoto as recipients for the 2021 season.

MASL TEAM OF THE WEEK - WEEK 8

Goalkeeper – Boris Pardo, San Diego Sockers

Pardo and his Sockers had a three-game week during the Sunshine Series in Florida and went home with two wins. He played in two of those games picking up 21 saves and holding the Tacoma Stars to just two goals on his way to being named Third Star of the game.

Defender – Maicon De Abreu, Ontario Fury

It was a nine-point week for De Abreu, perhaps the best offensive defender this season. He had three assists in the win over San Diego and two goals and an assist in the victory over Tacoma, being named Second and First Star, respectively. In the team’s lone loss this season, he notched a hat trick against Florida, good enough for Second Star of the game.

Defender – Mitchell Cardenas, San Diego Sockers

The Sockers put together a stellar defensive week and Cardenas was key during their three games. In addition to his work on defense, he picked up his team’s second goal with 9:27 to go in the first half in their win over Tacoma.

Midfielder – Mike Ramos, Tacoma Stars

Ramos has emerged as a top offensive producer for the Stars. In the Sunshine Series opening win against Florida, he snagged a pair of goals and an assist. He was credited with the game-winning goal nine seconds into overtime and was given the First Star of the game. He also scored two goals in Tacoma’s next game against Ontario.

Forward – Franck Tayou, Ontario Fury

The King is off to an incredible start for the 2021 season, picking up his third consecutive hat-trick in Ontario’s series-opening win over San Diego. He topped that with a four-point performance against the Stars (2G-2A) and a goal in the team’s only loss of the series.

Forward – Rian Marques, Kansas City Comets

The Comets scored 23 goals in their two games against Dallas, and Marques accounted for five of them. He scored a hat-trick in the first game of the weekend doubleheader and another two goals plus an assist in the second game.
