Sockers Sign MASL Veteran MF Flavio Guzman
The San Diego Sockers - presented by Kaiser Permanente - announced the signing of midfielder Flávio Guzman to a 2023-24 MASL player contract. As per club and league policy, details of the contract will not be revealed. Guzman is available for selection this weekend as the Sockers travel to Mexico to take on the Chihuahua Savage.
“We have had our eye on Flávio for some time, and believe he’s ready to contribute to the club,” said director of player personnel Chiky Luna, “He’s a player with some skill and scoring ability, and we look forward to seeing what he can do with us.”
Guzman, 30, played the past two seasons for the Dallas Sidekicks, where he scored (16-8=24) points in 19 matches played. This season, Guzman appeared in five matches for the Sidekicks, netting four goals with one assist. Hailing from Oak Creek, Texas, Guzman played collegiate soccer for Dallas College Richland as well as Midwestern State University, where he featured 41 times, scoring 16 goals with nine assists.
The Sockers travel to Mexico for a Friday night showdown with the defending Ron Newman Cup champion Chihuahua Savage, then return home for contests on Tuesday and Thursday night next week against the Texas Outlaws. $10 GA tickets are available for both matches by visiting sdsockers.com/tickets or calling (866) 799-GOAL.
