Law Enforcement Member Of The Year Honored

The Sockers honored Captain Edwardo Garza as the team's 2019-20 Community Appreciation Awards Law Enforcement Member Of The Year during a presentation between the third adn fourth periods. This is the first year for the community honors, which also include Coach, Volunteer, Teacher, and Military member categories.

Edgar Garcia, who nominated Captain Garza, shared with us his miraculous story,

On October 25, 2019, CCCR Captain Edwardo Garza was en route to his home on his motorcycle when he was struck by a car who a witness states ran a red light. Captain Garza sustained life-threatening brain injuries that resulted in being placed in a medically induced coma to save his life. After the first 7 days in a coma, the diagnosis was that he had a zero percent chance of recovery. When Captain Garza was brought out of his medically induced coma, he was deemed to have no brain activity. He was subsequently sent to a medical facility to die. This Marine was not finished with his duties. With the undying support of his wife and family, Captain Garza showed what Marines are made of and proved all medical diagnosis wrong and is back to complete his duties. He is still receiving medical care at Tri-City Medical Hospital.  He is learning how to walk, talk and with time, hopefully, he can start remembering some of us.

Captain Garza's wife, daughter, and son will be accepting the award in his absence.
