The 2022 Major League Baseball season is going to take place after a prolonged labor dispute between the players and owners, but fans were the losers when MLB canceled Opening Day, which was scheduled for March 31. The San Diego Sockers are stepping in to make a can’t-miss offer to Padres fans with an alternative to their previously-canceled plans: a Sockers home match against the Florida Tropics on “Nopening Night”, set for a 7:35pm kickoff at Pechanga Arena San Diego.

The Sockers are offering $5 general admission tickets for “Nopening Night”, the lowest-price ticket in modern Sockers history. For one night only, free parking has returned to Pechanga Arena, a $15 savings. Bud Lights will be on sale for $2 during the match. Lastly, fans who attend “Nopening Night” wearing Padres (or other MLB) gear will receive a Sockers championship pint glass (while supplies last) and a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for a future regular-season game through the 2022/23 season.

“For months, San Diego sports fans had March 31 circled as a day of celebration, and when MLB delayed their openers, it really left an entertainment hole for that day,” said Sockers chief marketing officer Craig Elsten, “The Sockers have stepped up with the lowest-cost alternative you will find for a pro sporting event in San Diego. You can get two tickets and two beers for LESS than the cost of one beer at Petco Park.”

“We hope many fans and families will take advantage and rediscover the winningest team in our city’s history as we push for another championship.”

The “Nopening Night” will continue as the Sockers will welcome 1976 NL Cy Young Award winner and long-time San Diego Padres ambassador Randy Jones to Pechanga Arena for the ceremonial first kick. Padres and Sockers organist Bobby Cressey will be on hand to offer the authentic sounds of a ballgame.

The Sockers are 19-0-1, winners of sixteen straight matches, and sit on top of the Major Arena Soccer League standings table, five points ahead of the Florida Tropics (16-2-1), who will be the “Nopening Night” opponent. The match result will likely determine who finishes first and second in the year-end standings.
