Sockers Win 5-4 in Thrilling Rematch vs Sidekicks

(November 12, 2016) Playing their second game in two days, San Diego Sockers (3-1) prevailed 5-4 against Dallas Sidekicks (2-3). The thrilling match featured goals, overtime and even shootouts!

Moments of individual brilliance from the Sockers proved to be the difference in the game. Victor Quiroz started off the scoring with a rocket shot into the top in the first quarter. The Sockers took a 3-2 lead into the half.

Then it was Brandon Escoto’s time to shine. The new signing, Escoto scored his first goal of the night with a lovely chip of Sidekicks goalkeeper Juan Gamboa. He then added his second in the 4th quarter as the Sockers were trailing 4-3. He capped off the night with a shootout goal when he rounded Gamboa and coolly slotted the ball into the goal.

Sidekicks forward Cameron Brown then made life difficult for the Sockers by scoring two goals on the night. Early in the 4th quarter his second goal put the Sidekicks up 4-3.

With the game tied 4-4 at the end of regulation, the match went to a 10-minute sudden death overtime. Both teams played cautiously in the extra period, with neither team scoring. Therefore the match went to a shootout.

Captain Kraig Chiles, who didn’t score for the first time this season, stepped up to take the first shoot out attempt and scored. Cameron Brown stepped up to take the Sidekicks attempt but dribbled straight into Sockers goalkeeper Boris Pardo. Escoto beautifully rounded Gamboa to score the second shootout. Jamie Lovegrove then saw his shootout attempt saved by the outstretched Pardo.

Pardo ended the game with 13 saves including two massive saves in the shootout. Sidekicks keeper Gamboa ended the night with 12 saves and an assist to Cameron Brown.

Next week the Sockers continue their road schedule to face Turlock Express on November 18th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:35pm.
