Sockers2 Announce 2022/23 MASL2 Schedule

SAN DIEGO - The Major Arena Soccer League2 (M2) today announced its schedule for the 2022/23 season which kicks off on December 3, 2022, and concludes on March 26, 2023. The sixth M2 campaign features 15 teams in three divisions playing a slate of 12 matches each, six at home and six on the road. The Sockers2 will open defense of their 2021/22 M2 championship on Sunday, December 18, 12:00pm at Pechanga Arena San Diego against the Empire Jets (formerly the Ontario Fury 2).

A total of 90 M2 regular-season games will be played, with all 90 of them coming on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, according to Commissioner Chris Economides. "With more teams in bigger arenas, it's tremendous that all our games will still be on the weekend. It’s a great schedule for fans, and the competition should be intense in each division,” Economides said. “Every team plays games only in their division this season, so every game will be extremely meaningful since winning your division is the one sure ticket to the playoffs.”

San Diego, who is led by Head Coach Rene Ortiz and Director Of Operations Alex Monnar, is competing in the West Division with the Chihuahua Savage 2, Club Deportivo de Baja California, RGV Barracudas, Turlock Express, and Jets. The Sockers2 defeated the Cleveland Crunch to win the 2021/22 M2 title and their second overall (2018/19). The team has played in the league title game in each of its three seasons.

"We are excited to be able to defend our championship and also have a program in place to develop players for the first team," said Sockers General Manager Sean Bowers. "Last year, several Sockersw2 players made the jump to the first team and made an impact during their title run. Having the Sockers2 is important to keeping the franchise in the forefront for years to come."
