Tacoma Edges Sockers 5-4 In Thrilling Game

Goalkeeper Danny Waltman made 22 saves and Adam West (2-0=2) scored the game-winner with 2:23 remaining to give the Tacoma Stars a 5-4 win over the San Diego Sockers at Ron Newman Field at Pechanga Arena San Diego on Saturday night.

West's second marker of the game was a strike from the red line that found the back of the net. New player/coach Nick Perera (1-1=2) assisted on the game-winner. The story of the game was Waltman who single-handily preserved the win for Tacoma. He made big saves throughout the match and the biggest one of the night came with three seconds remaining on a point-blank shot from inside the arc.

San Diego's Boris Pardo took the loss in goal despite making 10 saves. The Sockers again had balanced scoring as Raymundo Contreras. Kraig Chiles, Leo De Oliveira, and Brian Farber tallied goals. San Diego has scored four goals in each of their first three games.

Tacoma ended the Sockers' 16-game home winning streak and also gained a measure of revenge for being ousted in last year's Pacific Division Championship Series.

The Sockers travel to Dallas (December 26) and Monterrey (December 28) to close out 2018. San Diego will begin the new year with a road game at Turlock (January 4) before returning home for a rematch with the Ontario Fury on Saturday, January 5, 7: 05 p.m. at Ron Newman Field At Pechanga Arena San Diego on Health & Wellness Night.
