Tavoy Morgan Returns After Trade With Harrisburg

The San Diego Sockers have acquired forward Tavoy Morgan from the Harrisburg Heat in exchange for a player to be named later, and cash considerations. Morgan, 26, returns to the Sockers full-time after joining the club via loan during the 2021 Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) season.

“We are thrilled to have Tavoy back with the Sockers for good,” said Sockers general manager Sean Bowers, “It was a priority for us to bring him back. Morgan is a top target forward in this league, a young talent still coming into his prime, and we believe a key element of our attack going forward.”

Acquired via a loan from the Heat during the COVID-shortened 2021 campaign, Morgan made an immediate impact on the Sockers’ front line, scoring three goals in three games while adding an assist. Installed as the club’s top forward during the Ron Newman Cup playoffs, Morgan featured in all seven playoff matches, scoring two goals with three assists as San Diego went 6-1 en route to the Ron Newman Cup championship. Tavoy’s clutch contributions included a late fourth quarter game-tying goal in Game One of the opening-round series against Tacoma, and two assists in Game One of the Ron Newman Cup Finals against Ontario.

“I want to thank the Harrisburg Heat for helping start my career, and especially all the Harrisburg fans for all the love welcoming me every single game,” said Morgan of the trade, “It was time for me to take on a new challenge on the other side of the coast in San Diego. I want to come here and help defend the title I helped us win, and continue our journey. Hopefully, we can win many more titles, but we will take it game-to-game. I can’t wait to get started and to meet the great fans of this city!”

Morgan enters his fourth season in the MASL, having spent the first two years of his career with the Harrisburg Heat prior to last year’s loan while Harrisburg was inactive. In 2019-20, Morgan (5’9”, 180 lbs) featured in 13 games for the Heat, scoring (19-5=24) points, including four power-play goals and two game-winning goals. In 2018-19, Morgan was named to the MASL All-Rookie team, accruing (23-10=33) points in 24 matches. He previously appeared for the Elm City Express in the NPSL. A native of Spanish Town, Jamaica, Morgan owns a career .331 shooting percentage in the league.

The San Diego Sockers will begin their Ron Newman Cup title defense with a road match at Tacoma on December 11, before coming home on Sunday, December 19 for the home opener at Pechanga Arena San Diego. The club will raise its fifteenth professional indoor soccer championship banner and receive their championship rings prior to a 5:05pm kickoff against the Chihuahua Savage, while fans receive a commemorative championship poster.
