Two Sockers Named To MASL Team Of The Week

The San Diego Sockers Cesar Cerda and Brandon Escoto earned MASL's Team Of The Week honors with their performance over the team's opening weekend.

Here is your Week 5 Team of the Week:

Goalkeeper – Nicolau Neto, Kansas City Comets
Neto faced a barrage of shots, 29 to be exact, from a fresh San Diego Sockers team making their 2021 debut Friday night. He logged 12 saves on the way to a 5-3 win which snapped his squad’s four-game skid.

Defender – Vadim Cojocov, St. Louis Ambush
During a weekend that featured several highlight worthy goals, Cojocov’s was a header to quickly direct a rebound to the back of the net for one of his two markers during the Ambush’s 8-4 win over Florida on Sunday. He also recorded an assist, giving him a three-point game at the Family Arena.

Defender – Cesar Cerda, San Diego Sockers
Cerda notched the first goal of the year for his team in the opening quarter of their 5-3 loss against the Comets on Friday. Sunday was a different story for the Sockers, who despite being out shot by a 27-17 margin, defeated the Dallas Sidekicks by a 5-3 final. Cerda assisted on two of those goals, including the game-winner in the third quarter.

Midfielder – Brandon Escoto, San Diego Sockers
Escoto had a very Escoto-like weekend, notching five goals in all. He peppered the keeper on Friday, sending nine shots towards the net and picked up his first goal of the year in the fourth quarter. Goals number two through five came Sunday in the 5-3 win as he scored one of two hat tricks recorded during the week.

Midfielder – Victor Parreiras, Florida Tropics
It was a three-goal weekend for Parreiras including the game-winner for his team in their 8-3 win over the Ambush on Friday. He also assisted on Florida’s first goal of the game, which was the beginning of five consecutive goals and helped stretch the team’s win streak to six straight to start the season.

Forward – Tony Walls, St. Louis Ambush
Walls was responsible for the second hat trick of the week in Sunday’s 8-4 win which snapped Florida’s streak. The Ambush opened the game with four straight goals and two of them came courtesy of Walls. He notched the hat trick with an unassisted goal giving his team a two-goal lead with 6:22 remaining in the game.
